However easy might be the way of procuring light according to Genesis of the Old Testament, our quest for light has however never been such smooth sailing. Our only resort was the dream of having an organisation of our own and the rest is the history of a long battle against the odds.
We started our initial endeavour towards the end of 2015 and came to bring all our efforts to fruition through the long desired institution of our organisation Uddipana Bangla in 2018. Initially we were only three, Manas Gayen, Alok Sarkar and Nepo Mondal, three friends in-deed in need.
Our next step was to baptize our new born organisation in such a fascinating way that will perpetuate it in every heart of the Bengali speaking individuals. We named it Uddipana Bangla that was inaugurated on 27th April 2018. The function was attended by the glorious presence of Shri Bhagaban Gayen, the convenor, Shri Shankar Pal, the founder president who happens to be a well known industrialist and social worker of Panihati and Sudeshna Bhattacharya, our vice-president working as a high ranking officer in the Reserve Bank of India and performing Rabindra sangeet to her exceptional credit. Uddipana Bangla started its journey by organising music competitions.
Our path was always full of vicissitudes and yet, we have always been hellbent on nurturing our vulnerable sapling into a self supported full grown tree. On one hand, we have our best efforts to provide a healthy cultural platform to the society, more particularly to those backward and physically challenged, specially visually deprived candidates on the other hand we were to form a musical band that would disseminate its musical messages of peace and harmony to the hearts of Bengal. Our first finale was held at Master da Surjya Sen auditorium on 23rd November 2018. Our band was formed with the successful candidates of the said competition.
Uddipana Bangla succeeded in continuing its winning race from the last of 2018 till the first of 2020, until the fatal scourge of deadly Corona fell on the fabrics of life itself and snapped them.
During the period of pandemic, Uddipana Bangla had to face serious existential threads due to most of its members distancing themselves from their charges. Manas Gayen was the only one left to protect the growth of his incipient organisation under the inspiration of his beloved wife, Babli Das. Atlast came Chandranath Saha with his immense cooperation as an adviser. Nilima Banerjee's contribution to the growth and development of Uddipana Bangla in her capacity as an ordinary member is no less worth-mentioning.
Problems appeared once again during attempts for registration, that required a permanent address of Uddipana Bangla and it was yet to achieve one. Ms Namita Pal an officer of education department lent us her own address and thus it was due to her magnanimity that Uddipana Bangla got finally registered on 21st July 2022. We had our new committee comprising the president Shri Shishir Bindu Pal, a retired officer of south-eastern railways, vice-president Ms Nupur Basu, a well known educationist and elocutionist and Rita Guha, a veteran teacher and reciter and Ms Namita Pal, the executive president.
From second year recitation competitions were introduced alongside musical competitions. Thus Uddipana Bangla with its limited capacity, has always extended its succour to those visually challenged as well as to others in its 8 year journey, although thorns of obstacles have always been there down the memory lane.
